2009 VIDAS Clinic
On August 10th and 11th the annual VIDAS animal sterilization program was held in
Playa del Carmen.  In past years they were able to hold this event for 2 days in Puerto
Morelos. However, due to lack of donation to their fund, they were unable to provide
their services locally.  Not to be deterred, our leading local animal activist, Diane,
once again rose to the challenge!  She and her core of volunteers arranged to set up
an intake clinic in the Colonia, transport the animals between Playa and Puerto, and
then arrange pick up by their owners.  During those 2 days,  63 dogs and 18 cats from
Puerto Morleos were transported to Play del Carmen to be sterilized by the awesome
vets from VIDAS..  Of the dogs, 48 were females and of the cats, 12 were females.  
Without this program, the births resulting from just one heat cycle would result in a
minimum of 300 additional animals here!  This number does not take into account the
offspring that would have resulted from the 2nd generation.

We would like to extend our special thanks to the volunteers that gave their time,
effort and support to this project, many of whom took time away from their own work
and endeavors.  Also we would like to thank the Delegado, Francisco Mendoza Reyna
for his support in our endeavor.

We recognize that many of you support our efforts and even though you may not have
been able to be directly involved, there are ways you can say “Thanks!”.
1.  Donations to provide food and care for abandon animals, sterilization,
vaccinations, and health care for owners unable to provide such are always welcome
and can be made to Diane at her shop.
2.  Show your appreciation by supporting those volunteers who gave their time
and/or resources.  At the bottom of this message is a list of those who participated in
this effort along with the business or projects with which they are involved.
