The clinic has been a great success! It is unarguable that exposing children to a new language early on builds confidence and motivates them to continue learning English after they finish our program. We have started an English class for the grandmothers. They are a joy to teach and learn with. These days are extra rewarding. The Little English Schoolhouse hosted its first English Festival. June 23rd turned out to be the perfect day for a Summer Festival. The square was alive with children and their parents running here and there readying for their child’s place in the program; the younger and older siblings filling the playground. The grandmothers (Abuelitas) sat to one side waiting to showcase their new red gowns while singing I Met Him On A Sunday by The Sherelles. Local artists lined the park to sell original designs to the visitors and part-time locals. It was wonderful to see the town square so alive. Our intention is to continue to organize an event, each quarter, which brings The Little English Schoolhouse and the community together to embrace living and learning. The next one should take place in the fall. We are working on some ideas and will keep you informed as one develops. Thank you for all your support. It has brought us a long way and we hope it continues to push us further into the future. With gratitude, Ms. Ana- The Little English Schoolhouse Postscript: We very much need a camera with the capability to take video. We had an old Sony from my design days. I brought it with me from home; but it was very difficult to get the battery. We requested one on the “much needed list” and we received it shortly after. I was so excited; we could finally start making little videos, of the classes, to post on the website. I readied the camera confident everything was working smoothly. On the day of our Summer Festival I brought it out, turned it on and there was no touch screen- blank- it is not operable without it. No video of the children reciting: “Brown Bear, Brown bear, what do you see?” So sad! Please if anyone has a used one or can donate one for the school, we would be very happy. Also, we are always in need of the Dell810 cartridges. We can’t get them here. LETTER OF June 11, 2010 On June 23, 2010 The Little English Schoolhouse will participate in the towns Summer Festival. It will host the English segment including The Little English Schoolhouse reciting Brown Bear Brown Bear, the Principito Kinder singing various songs and the Puerto Morelos DIF with the Abuelitas singing a Shirelles song, I met him on a Sunday. I would like to extend a very special Thank you to everyone who has helped take us from our first class on February 5, 2009 to our public début in the town square. Thank you With gratitude Ms. Ana- The Little English Schoolhouse LETTER OF Jan 22, 2010 The Little English Schoolhouse is providing free English classes for the children of Puerto Morelos. The program has been a great success! It is unarguable that exposing children to a new language early on builds confidence and motivates them to continue learning English after they finish our program. I would like to dedicate this note to everyone who supported the school this past year. It was our first year and a successful year. You helped build the foundation on which this program will succeed. We hope to do great things in the future. Of course our main focus is on the original classes for the children but we want to continue to offer a class for adults and start a class for teens. On another note: I received an email about 2 little girls who have relocated here and are not attending regular school. They are sisters, ages 10 and 5 and have never been schooled. We would like to help them. If you would like to know how you can help please contact me through www.vivapuertomorelos.com at The Little English Schoolhouse link. Things we really need NOW! We really need a new laptop. When I say that I mean new to us- used is good. I am taking this one to the doctor this week but its time is near. Also there is a notice about our friend, veterinarian and a big part of our community, Jorge on Frank´s website www.vivapuertomorelos.com . Please take a look. Please I know it is difficult for a lot of us right now but if you can find a little, together we can make it happen. Thank you so much! With gratitude Ms. Ana- The Little English Schoolhouse LETTER OF Dec 09, 2009 The Little English Schoolhouse is providing free English classes for the children of Puerto Morelos. The program has been a great success! It is unarguable that exposing children to a new language early on builds confidence and motivates them to continue learning English after they finish our program. The holidays are here and I would like to take the days ahead as an opportunity to care for some really urgent and necessary things needed for the school. Things we really need NOW! The little computer we use for the school needs to go to the doctor. The CD disc drive is not working and we really need it, a lot of our working material is on disc. Also, it could use a good look see for other developing quirks and tics. I fear if I do not do this our little computer will cease to exist. We depend on this very computer on which I write this note. It would be next to impossible to run the school without it. The cost of the checkup should be around $100. The digital camera needs to be cleaned. There is a bug in the lens that shows up in the middle of the pictures and we really need to purchase the batteries and memory card for the cameras so I can document the progress of the school. We can purchase them in Cancun. Batteries: Fuji lithium ion NP-60 $20 for the digital Camera Sony NP-FS11 $25 for the video camera I really need more pages of laminate to make the picture cards. The cost is $30 at Office Depot in Cancun. Please I know it is difficult for a lot of us right now but if you can find a little, together we can make it happen. Thank you With gratitude Ms. Ana- The Little English Schoolhouse LETTER OF NOV 05, 2009 The Little English Schoolhouse is providing free English classes for the children of Puerto Morelos. The program has been a great success! It is unarguable that exposing children to a new language early on builds confidence and motivates them to continue learning English after they finish our program. This session which began October 9th includes a class that combines the two groups on Wednesdays. This class gives the children an opportunity to speak English together, sharing through conversational games, art projects, singing and storytelling. It also gives us the chance to bring the children of the community together with the common interest of learning a new language. This class has added such a boost to the children’s learning curve. Not only does it increase the ability to retain the knowledge the children learn in their enrolled classes but has increased and helped maintain a strong attendance in all the classes. I hope you all continue to share in our dream. I realize you don’t get to see it firsthand. It is incredibly rewarding and never fails to warm the heart! Things we really need NOW! The little computer we use for the school is cursed with a little hard drive and is also showing signs of that dreadful day: that’s a rap, end of the line, farewell, bon voyage … so if anyone has or knows anyone with a used laptop they can spare or don´t need please think of The Little English Schoolhouse. We depend on this very computer on which I write this note. It would be next to impossible to run the school without it. We really need to purchase the batteries for the cameras so I can document the progress of the school. We can purchase them in Cancun. Thank you With gratitude Ms. Ana- The Little English Schoolhouse LETTER OF SEPT 18, 2009 Dear Everyone: The little English Schoolhouse is a nonprofit program created to teach English for free to the children of Puerto Morelos. We teach The Free English Program at the library in the Colonia. There are two classes: Friday night at 6pm, and Monday at 6pm. There are 12 students in each class. We would like to take the program a step further by offering a class that combines the two groups. This time would give them the opportunity to talk English together, sharing through conversational games, art projects, singing and storytelling. It will also give us the chance to bring the children of the community together with the common interest of learning a new language. The classes run for a Four month session. After each session we enroll a new group of children. It is the generosity of others that helped make the idea a reality. In the beginning we depended solely on the finances from my private lessons but it just isn’t enough. We reached out to the Residents and Visitors and fans of Puerto Morelos for donations and the response was great. We received supplies and monetary donations that took The Free English Program from a dream to a reality. However, the school is having a hard time sustaining in these times of economic difficulties. We understand that times are hard for a lot of people and this affects everyone and everything. So, we are selling Polos with the school logo. They sell for $25 and 100% of the proceeds go back into the school. $25 helps us put a child through one half of a whole session. Also we have started a project that we hope will give the school a chance to generate a small income to help keep it going. We called it Pets for Kids. We are crafting ceramic pet dishes and selling them. Created and designed by our own Ms. Ana. There are a variety of sizes and themes like the famous PM lighthouse, the sea and the sun, the moon on beach, palms and shells and more fun stuff. It is a really good cause and a wonderful gift to take home to your best friends. 100% of the sales will go back into the project and the school! We hope to give the school a lasting chance by making it somewhat self sufficient. We need your donations to help kick - start production this season. I hope you can help us with Pets for Kids. Please make your donations through the pay pal account for The Little English Schoolhouse link on www.vivapuertomorelos.com. We will continue to develop and implement other projects to help keep the school sustainable. Please visit the website to see what they are. With Gratitude, Ms Ana The Little English Schoolhouse. |
