Money Exchange There are 2 money exchange booths in the main square area and an ATM machine next to the grocery store. The money exchange booths do cash travelers cheques. Your ATM or credit card from your bank will work in the ATM machines in Mexico as long as your bank uses a 4 digit PIN. The exchange rate from the ATM is better than the booth exchange rate unless your bank charges high transactions fees for out-of-country use. The ATM's are safe to use and many of us depend on them exclusively for our cash. For the current exchange rate click here
While you are here, be sure to check out the Mayan Handicraft Center located on Ave. Javier Rojo Gomez south. Here you will find a wide selection of Mayan handicrafts.

Getting Here By car - Puerto Morelos is located approximately 1/2 way between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Just turn east (towards the sea) at the Puerto Morelos light and continue straight to the town square. By bus - Buses leave from the Cancun and Playa del Carmen bus stations every 10 minutes. The price of the ticket each way is 18 pesos. From the Puerto Morelos bus station you can catch an inexpensive (around 25 pesos) taxi into town or a collectivo bus (see below) for 4 pesos/person. Getting around town - Most all of the town is within easy walking distance. The streets are safe to walk and well lit a night as well. Puerto Morelos also now has a collectivo bus system that travels the circuit around town and across the main highway to the colonia on the west side of the highway. These are white vans that are easily identifiable. To catch one, you only need to stand on the side of the street or in the square and flag them down. (just ask the locals if you need help finding or identifying them). They are excellent for returning to the bus station. Taxis - We have an ample supply of taxis here in Puerto Morelos. Prices within the town run around 25 pesos. If you wish to visit the outlying areas of town such as the El Cid Marina area, you will need a taxi.
