As reported by T.J. on the Cancun Forum ( http://www.cancunassist.com/)

SHIPPING BY BOAT
Hyde Shipping is in Port Everglades which is about 5-10 minutes from the Ft. Lauderdale airport. You DO NOT ride on the ship. Visit www.hydeshipping.com and you can even get a quote online. You need the length, width & height of your vehicle, as if it was in a box. Something like a Ford Escort is about $750 and a Ford Escape SUV about $850. There are some fixed costs but most of the cost is based on the volume. If you don't want to measure your car you can get the specifications online at the manufacturers website.

The vehicle comes into Puerto Morelos. When you take your car to the port you need the title and your passport. The title and bill of lading will show up by Fedex at the office of the customs broker before the car gets to the port. This is really your only option for shipping from Florida, but these guys are great. I have dealt with Orlando Lopez and his number is available on the website.

You need to register the car in Mexico before picking it up and you do this at Banjercito in Pto. Juarez. The permit is called Permiso de Importacion Temporal. The cost is 312 pesos and has to be put on a credit card. Y ou need your title, US registration, drivers license, FM3 or FMT and the bill of lading. 2 copies of each plus the originals

Hi Frank, I went thru you suggestions about shipping a ride.
I'm managing my shipment - Italy-> PM directly with an italian freight service. They take care about all the custom papers from my Country to the destination port. They can drop my quadbike directly to PM commercial port. What is missed to me is the Mexican custom paper needed to get it. In essence once my ride is downloaded what I'm suppose to have to take it?
You mentioned the Banejercito office in Puerto Juarez. Are those the papers required?
Is there any person/custom officer/service in PM taking care about this iter?
Can you have your ride (car, motrobike, ATV..) shipped here even if you are not a permanent resident?

Sorry to bother U with so many questions.
Nos vemos
Fabio

The port here in PM will provide you with the paperwork you will need to take to the Banejercito office in Puerto Juarez. They will give you an importation sticker that is valid as long as you have a valid visas here.

We already have our import sticker. We have our vehicle loaded with our clothing, etc. Do we need a customs broker to get our vehicle and things? One of the shipping companies said we can ship our things in the vehicle. Others said it needed to be empty. They all shipped in containers and were not RO/RO. Do you know of items that cannot come into the port at PM? I've read that any towels, clothing, or items from China can be taxed up to 500%. It seems like almost everything is made in China.

Do you know of any custom brokers/agents in PM and do you know approximate cost?

Thanks.
