(email and phone number are not required) Chimichurri Posted: 09 Apr 2008 05:08 pm on forum Wow! Try their empanadas -- several kinds, all only $15 p. each. And their pizza is pretty good, with a very crispy crust. I understand that they make their own pasta, but didn't have time to try it The Mexican Pub Posted: 22 May 2008 07:39 am on forum We went as a large group (6 adults & 2 kids) on a weeknight. We had excellent & friendly service. The kids were welcomed entertained a bit. The food was excellent. The prices were a little higher than other places in town, so we ate at the cheaper end of the menu. The steak & chicken tacos were unbelievably good! Not like any tacos I've ever seen! Juicy, flavorful, delicious. The "bowl" is a speciality, and contains a combination of foods you will want to take a picture of! The only downside of this restaurant is the huge television on the wall. Really detracts from the decor & ambiance Posted: 09 Apr 2008 05:10 pm on forum This is a very small but upscale restaurant for P.M. Nicely decorated, smells delicious. I had a rib-eye steak and baked potato and took half home. It was excellent and perfectly done. Los Gauchos Posted: 24 Feb 2008 09:16 pm on forum On the recommendation of our dive instructor, we enjoyed a nice lunch of empanadas here. At 15 pesos a piece, it was one of the least expensive lunches we had, and they were excellent. My daughters are still talking about it. Jim U Hola Asia (submitted to the website by "P" June 6th, 2007) What a great find! I never expected to find an Asian restaurant, especially not an EXCELLENT one, in little Puerto Morelos. The first dish I tried was the General Tso's Chicken, a wonderful blend of sweet and sour, one of their best sellers. My husband fell in love with the Lemon Chicken, and vowed never to order anything else. Like everything else in Mexico, it's made with limes instead of lemons, and the flavor is a bit more delicate than lemon. After a couple more visits we ventured out a bit and we've decided that they have the BEST egg foo young ever, along with fantastic fried rice. The Tempura Shrimp (or just the accompanying vegetables without the shrimp)is wonderful. If you like Crab Rangoon, we found theirs to be excellent as well. Posted: 20 Aug 2007 07:01 pm from forum Yum, Yum, Yum! The best Pad Thai I've ever had. Great service, reasonably priced, and fabulous food. Posted: 18 Mar 2008 11:27 am from forum I was very disappointed with their Pad Thai. Perhaps I am spoiled, but I found it just okay and nothing close to the deliciousness of Pad Thai's I've had previously. It tasted very teriaki-ish - like it was americanized for the tourists or something. Sounds like I should have ordered the General Tso's Chicken instead Posted: 09 Apr 2008 05:03 pm from forum This place never disappoints me. I love the crab rangoon, General Tso's Chicken, and the Egg Foo Yung (although I hate anything else with eggs in it). I found the pad thai to be delicious, and a little spicier than I was used to at home Cantina Habanero May 2008 As reported on http://relaxmx.com/puerto_morelos_the_town This is The party place for locals and gringos as well. Ed, the owner has ideas to surprise us all . To use the expression, NEVER A DULL MOMENT, is very fitting here. From new musisians to costume parties to artificial smoke to the band made up of the cook and all the other employees aka staff infection, and they were good! this guy has an imagination! Did I mention great pizza and onion rings we can not live without? You can not help but see this place on Ninos Heros because of the blue or green lights illuminating the bar. You can see from the road who is there and it is usully everybody April 14, 2008 - Check out Cantina Habanero. Everything on the menu was great but the pizza is the best in all of Mexico. We've been to Puerto twice and tried many restaurants but found the atmosphere and food at Habanero to be our favorite. If you stop in say hi to "chili" for us. June 8 2007 (submitted to the website by Dennis) We stopped here for a drink on a hot afternoon and fell in love with Roys mango margaritas. We returned later that evening for dinner and had the baby back ribs. We have been travelling to Mexico for 25 years and this was one of the best meals we have ever had. Streetside dinning just doesn't get any better than this. October 6th (submitted by Frank in Puerto Morelos ) Although my policy has been to not submit my own reviews, I feel I have to break custom and mention the pizza made at Cantina Habanero's. Totally handmade from scratch with fresh toppings, Ed's pizzas are some of the finest I have eaten anywhere, in and out of Mexico. If you have ever eaten "Mexican-made pizzas", you know the disappointment you experienced. Don't miss out of this taste sensation! Posted: 26 Nov 2007 (on Forum) Dropped by three times whilst in PM, good atmosphere and really good music. Pity their was no-one around who could play the instruments parked at the end of the bar. Posted on Trip Advisor 12/09/07 My husband and I just spent a year in Puerto Morelos and sadly left due to health reasons. While there we had the privilege of going many times to the best restaurant in town. The Cantina Habanero, while being a good place to imbibe your favorite cocktail or beer on a hot afternoon or cool breezy evening, the food should be the main reason for stopping by this delightful cantina. Your hosts, Ed and Nat make sure the best ingredients go into their recipes. We never had a meal we didn't like, especially the pizza....the best in Mexico and Gringo territory! The fish is extraordinary. The hamburgers divine. But best of all are the good friends we met and the great music Ed rounds up. We miss them, the friends we met and the food. I recommend anyone looking for a "locals" place make the Cantina Habanero that place. Posted: 16 Dec 2007 01:04 am on forum Comment by = M. Drake comments = I have a house in Puerto Morelos and try to visit 3 or 4 times a year. My visit would not be complete without several stops to visit Ed and Naty at Cantina Habeneros. The food is delicous, the pizza the best you could ask for, the shrimp tacos are an all time favorite, and the drinks are just what the doctor ordered on a hot lazy afternoon. The staff are all friendly and attentive, the music is great and you can always count on Ed for a good story, or a test run on a brand new recipe Posted: 24 Feb 2008 09:39 pm on forum I'd just like to echo the sentiments of others about Cantina Habaneros. We dropped by almost every night, for either dinner, just a drink, or late night pizza. The food was terrific, and it is a wonderful place to just hang out. I meant to get an EMPPMC shirt from you on Thursday night Frank, but it slipped my mind. I'll try to get one when I'm down next month. Jim U Posted: 09 Apr 2008 04:57 pm from forum Not that Ed and Naty really need any more good publicity, I want to add that their burgers are huge and fabulous, and the french fries are great. But to me, the absolute best thing on the menu is the Fried Zucchini.... and also the shrimp cocktail, and not on the menu currently, Ed's bean soup! Everything at this fun restaurant is great and well-prepared. The music is excellent and the owners are great people. I'm sorry I had to go home Tuesday!! L'OAZIS Submitted by XanadudeDallas on Trip Advisor July 28, 2007 Just off the main square down from Hola Asia. This is an italian restaurant (loazis.com) that was one of our top 3 meals all week. This is our last night out and was our second attempt that evening for dinner - after having given up on another. The appetizers ordered were portabello mushrooms in a slight balsmic vinager which was perfect. dusted and grilled eggplant and zuchini in a tzicki (Mediterranean style sauce)sp?) with freshly grated parmesean sauce. Divine. Finally we had an artichoke and hearts of palm salad with a nice thick slice of chevre on top. We all had the cheese which was perfect. I didn't have a chance to taste the salad, but nothing remained of the plate once our entree's were delivered. For entree's our two ladies had the shrimp sambuca with sun dried tomatoes which came recommended. We also had the lenguine with clams and shrimp in a white wine sauce. I went with a stample order to see how the lower priced entree's were. Ok - here's the review, I may sound a bit critical, but it's only because I really believe with some changes this could be the best restaurant in the whole area. The shrimp sambucca was absolutely great, creammy sauce with garlic lightly covering grilled fresh catch shrimp. My wife ordered a side of linguine to add to hers and reports that should be the standard. I'm having left overs this morning and agree. The linguine with clams and shrimp was wonderful also and he reports that even compared to restaurants in Dallas he would give this plate an 8. (having dined at Abacus two weeks earlier). The ravioli was a welcome home style dish and I would highly recommend to any one being a bit tired of the regional faire. These ravioli were purchased and the meat inside was more of a type of Mediterranean stick meat, which makes them look nice and square pleasing appearance. I could tell my dish was cooked first as many of the ravioli were sticking together. The sauce was also a bit thick. I would recommend to the chef to retain about 1 cup of the cooking water and reduce it a bit and just for serving adding that so the sauce and ravioli to this up the sauce without making it too watery. As you may imagine we all gushed about how wonderful the food was at L'Oazis. If you are in PM for a single night I would put this on your list. Posted: 18 Nov 2007 (on Forum) We are very fond of the marinated balsamic tuna or, even better, their salmon steaks. Served with an herbed rice and washed down with glass of house wine, L'Oazis is a fine dining choice. Plus they serve an excellent cup of coffee. BODO'S Submitted by XanadudeDallas on Trip Advisor In brief - wonderful. Nice pate to start with all food was wonderful. It was a full moon which I throroughly enjoyed. In fact I enjoyed the evening so much I'm a little foggy on the details. It is a definite stop in PM - they close early so make reservations Posted: 09 Apr 2008 05:06 pm on forum Great fish, geat Hungarian goulash, great Wiener Schnitzel -- an excellent dining choice. David Lau's (submitted 11/26 on Forum) Just spent two weeks in PM and after our first meal at this restaurant we could not resist going back for more (another three times) to sample Davids Hong Kong cuisine with a Mexican twist. The Thai fish, deep fried with stir fried vegetables is to die for. Valerie gave us the same personal service as she used to at Hola Aisia. We will certainly return to this restaurant, the food is fabulous and the prices are very reasonable. Posted: 13 Feb 2008 05:38 am from forum We had General Tsaos chicken, best I have ever had in the states. The spinach salad was much more than just a salad. The Spring Rolls were delicious also. Valerie is the icing on the cake. Cheerful and helpful, such a lovely lady. Tip her well, she deserves it. Le Marlin Bleu Posted: 25 Nov 2007 (on Forum) from forum Can't believe that the Blue Marlin isn't up here... not sure why because the shrimp tacos are amazing, Eric ( the owner) is very friendly ( he actually lent my mom a wine glass after much wheedling) and the general food is consistently excellent. Hasn't anyone eaten here? Right off the Plaza, it's lovely to sit in the evenings and watch the activity and consume some lovely dinners. Posted: 26 Nov 2007 (on Forum) Didn't you try his FISH taco's To die for....Eric also has daily specials,,at least he did when we visited in Jan. '07,,,we met some of best ''new'' friends there...see you in '08 LE MARLIN BLEU Posted: 04 Jan 2008 11:04 am from forum My family and I just got back from our condo in PM and wanted to say we went to le blue marlin 3 or 4 times..we even got 5 orders of shrimp tacos to go....they are excellent...my wife even had snook which was so fresh and delicious....Eric is great and always very positive...He normally works by himself with his chef.....I look forward to my next order of shrimp tacos in the spring La Suegra Posted: 24 Feb 2008 09:09 pm on forum I was just down in PM for the past week, taking possession of our new place. As our fridge had not yet arrived from Liverpool, we had the opportunity to try a great number of restaurants, and these were 2 of our favorites. Had lunch at Suegra 3 times, and it was fabulous each time. Great food, great service, and an on the beach location like no other! Had dinner at John Gray's twice, and had some of the finest meals I have ever had, anywhere in the world. On Wed night, we were lucky enough to go out between courses and watch the lunar eclipse- what a night! Jim U La Petit Posted: 13 Feb 2008 05:54 am on forum Walk N on Av Rafael Melgar, first street off the beach. A little way down on the left, go down a few stairs and enter La Petit. Find a table and order the garlic shrimp or two orders because they are so wonderful, once you start, you can't stop. You can also pick a fish and they will prepare it for you. Staff is super friendly and the food is wonderful. Be prepared for a blast from the past, they were playing music from when I was in high school. 80's stuff. That was fun! New England Pub Posted: 06 Feb 2008 04:53 pm from forum This place is a must try! It is located in the hotel accross the street from John Gray's on Nine Heros. We first tried it last November and it was excellent. We have been back twice this month. Tuesday night is prime rib, very good, but our favorite is the pineapple chicken, actually grilled and served in a pineapple half. Chef Dieter used to cook for the Hollywood actors and actresses on the movie sets and his food quality and presentations will make you feel like a VIP. Prices are very reasonable. Don't miss this hidden gem. They are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Posted: 13 Feb 2008 05:35 am from forum I have to add, you would not be disappointed by anything you would order. The Pub is located in Hotel Inglaterra. We ate with Chef Dieter several times while we were staying at Inglaterra. We had the Pineapple Chicken, Prime Rib, and Filet Mignon. All prepared and mouth watering delicious. You would be missing a true treasure if you missed eating here while in town. Posted: 09 Apr 2008 05:01 pm from forum I had a pork chop that was excellent. but was told that they no longer had the prime rib because "all the Americans and Canadians have gone home (the end of March)." I (American) and my dining companion (Canadian) begged to differ. My companion had sea bass that was exquisite Dona Triny's Posted: 20 Aug 2007 02:08 pm from forum we dubbed this "taconet" during our stay. Since most everything closed by 9, 10pm in the low season (not sure about high), Triny's was often the only place open for a snack when us notorious night owls got hungry, which was pretty much every night. Their enchiladas and quesadillas were excellent. Try the cactus ones for a very different, unique experience. Super friendly staff - just ask what their favourite is, and try it out. They also do a great brunch. Our friends tried the breakfast soup and said it was one of the most filling meals they had in Mexico. Posted: 13 Feb 2008 05:31 am from forum I must agree Dona Triny's is a place you must stop by. The food we had was wonderful. Victor is one of the staff, he was very helpful with advice and just nice conversation. Order a big glass of Chaya/passionfruit tea while you check your emails. You will be hooked. Very friendly place. Tio's Posted: 10 Feb 2008 11:00 pm from forum This is one of my favorite PM restaurants. We usually eat there at least twice a week when we're in town. The tamales are the best and we really like the Panuchos too. It's right around the corner from Martin's. Casa del Pescador March 13, 2008 We were in Puerto Morelos in March 2008. We had one of the best dinners in our 3 times of visiting Puerto Morelos. Salustiano is the owner of La Casa Del Pescador. It is an up stairs dinning. Next to the Natural store. We had the grouper and garlic shrimp and of course a few Cervesas. We had lots of food to eat. We did walk away very full. and happy. Thank you Salustiano, it was great! Felipe and Berta from MN Pelicano's Posted: 20 Aug 2007 02:14 pm on forum Pelicano's is an institution in PM, and you can see why. The portions are generous, the menu is extensive and the owners magnanimous. The view is great too. when they found out we were from Canada, they switched out the US flags in our margaritas for canadian ones I had the steak fajitas one night and they were good. The steak was a little overdone for my taste, but I have found that par for the course in Mexico. The other night I had a fish cooked in traditional tixnchix style. Its a hot paste grilled over open fire. It was very good, with lots of tortilla and rice to help it go down. Posted: 09 Apr 2008 05:05 pm on forum I LOVE their shrimp quesadillas, and my granddaughters can't stay away from the garlic shrimp |
